I am George Horne from Tsawout/Tsartlip First Nation. I am 36 years old and have been paddling since I was 5. I have been competing in our traditional canoes since I was 5 years old and Outrigger for 8 years.

My position on the canoes are the skipper/steerperson; it is my job to communicate with the crew on the water. Steering the Outrigger is different but riding the waves is going to be fun!

Coming from a paddling family has embedded the love for the water in my soul.

My name is Len Morris Jr from Tsartlip First Nation, and member of the Geronimo canoe club. I have been paddling war canoes since I was 7 years old and outrigger canoe for the past 8 years. I have won the Canadian national outrigger race 4 times and numerous men's single war canoe races as well.

I have been paddling competitively in men's war canoes for the past 22 years and outrigger for the past 7 years. I am an avid paddle and canoe builder and I am representing Canada in the world championship 2017 long distance outrigger race in Tahiti in the six man and singles/solo race.

My canoe experience started at the age of five. Most of us started off sitting on a log in the water, with a stick for a paddle, which earned us the name "beach kids". I remember moving up to a kayak and a paddle by the time I was 8 and then moved to the men's crew when I was 16. I have competed in a lot of races since then. We started outrigger canoeing 6 years ago. We won the Canadian Outrigger Championships 3 times. We have been to Hawaii to race once in Kona. Our next races will be the IVF World Distance races held in Tahiti 2017 in June.

My traditional name is TKOLECTEN, my borrowed name is Joe Seward, I am of the Tsartlip First Nation. I attend the University of Victoria and am a father of three, with one on the way. I am a very culturally based person; I follow culture, language and traditions, paddling being one of them. I am a 4th generation paddler and I paddle out of the Geronimo Canoe Club in Saanich.

I grew up with the sport - I started paddling our traditional “War Canoes” at the age of 5 and over the years of my paddling career I’ve seen success in 11 man, 6 man, 2 man and solo races in our traditional war canoe racing circuit.  More recently, we migrated over to the outrigger circuit in which we strung together some big wins, Canadian Nationals (three times), experienced the waters of Hawaii, Oregon and our latest Canadian Nationals Title won us a trip to the World Championships in Tahiti…as team Canada!

I am grateful for this opportunity - paddling is more than a sport to me, it’s a way of life.
