A Tsartlip team have qualified for the world championship in outrigger canoe racing in Tahiti. But there’s one problem. They don’t actually have the proper canoe.
This is what they were using to practice this morning, traditional war canoes. The men are part of the Geronimo Canoe Club.
And despite not having the right equipment to train with, they won the Canadian Championship this past summer. Now, they’ve got a bigger task ahead of them, taking on the best of the best in Tahiti.
Len Morris says he and his partner are hoping to raise 150-thousand dollars, to buy an outrigger canoe, and to make the journey.
